This research analyzes the causes of deterioration and destruction of monumental heritage in the Historic Center of Ayacucho during the period 2015-2024. Through a qualitative approach based on value theory, the author examines how social, economic, institutional, and cultural factors have contributed to the loss of 50-60% of colonial and republican mansions. The book explains that the deterioration is not only physical but also symbolic, a result of deficient policies, pressure from disordered urban growth, weak oversight, and limited public awareness. With interviews with officials, owners, and heritage managers, as well as direct observation, this work offers a comprehensive diagnosis and recommendations for the sustainable conservation of this invaluable historical and cultural legacy.
