This book addresses the importance of Andean peasant agriculture and the knowledge of diversity cultivation transmitted through community education via the Andean agro-ritual calendar. Author Julio Valladolid Rivera argues that Andean farming cultures, over 10,000 years old, developed knowledge of plant and animal cultivation (polyculture, signs, rituals, communal work) that constitutes a viable alternative to current climate change. The study documents experiences of training young peasant leaders using methodologies that "converse" with Andean orality, demonstrating that the creation of agro-festive ritual calendars is the most appropriate teaching tool to incorporate this wisdom into the school curriculum and promote genuine Intercultural Bilingual Education that strengthens Ayllupi Sumac Kawsay (living comfortably in community) and food self-sufficiency for all.
