The Independence of Peru has been extensively researched, although with a focus primarily on the patriots. This publication seeks to balance the perspective by also analyzing the royalist sectors: their motivations, contributions, and the consequences they faced for defending the crown. Unlike other studies oriented to the political sphere, it proposes a regional history with an emphasis on the social dimension of men and women who fought for the viceroyalty. Its value also lies in the use of unpublished documents found in regional, national, and international repositories, which provides a renewed perspective of the independence process.
